LIVE Updates: Virginia Tech Hokies vs California Baseball, Game One Score

E9 — FINAL — VT 9, Cal 1:

The Hokies added a trio of insurance runs on three hits and an error. The inning was highlighted by Nick Locurto, who launched a two-run home run before Sam Gates and Owen Petrich went down swinging to end the inning.

The Hokies were able to negate Cal's seventh-inning run by adding a pair of runs in the eighth. A pair of one-out walks turned the order over to Sam Grube, who singled into left field to score Owen Petrich. Pete Daniel was able to get around and score after Grube induced a rundown on the play. He was out, but Daniel did score. Ethan Gibson struck out to end the inning

M4, VT leads 3-0:
A pair of singles put runners on the corners with one out for the Hokies, but Ethan Gibson grounded into an inning-ending double play, keeping the Hokies from adding on to their three-run lead.

Once again, Brett Renfrow worked around a single baserunner — this time a one-out walk – to toss another scoreless frame.

A two-out rally for the Hokies sparked a pair of runs. Henry Cooke lined a two-out single to center field before Ethan Ball continued his recent hot streak, blasting a two-run shot to right field and giving Brett Renfrow some early run support.
Hudson Lutterman followed that with a little league home run, hitting a double — by the scorecard — and scoring on a throwing error from Cal first basemen Daniel Murillo. Sam Gates flew out to end the frame.

Brett Renfrow continues his strong start, working around a one-out walk to toss his second scoreless frame. He's at 26 pitches through two innings.
