FINAL - Cal 9, VT 4:

After loading the bases with two outs, a wild pitch brought in a runner. Henry Cooke ended up striking out to account for the final out of the game.

E8, Cal leads 9-3:

A one-out RBI single from Ethan Kodama allowed Taichi Nakao to score before a throwing error from Sam Grube, which allowed Brady Errecart to score from first, giving Cal a six-run lead.

M8, Cal leads 7-3:

A two-out single was the only action Virginia Tech got on the basepaths in the seventh. They will need at least four runs — assuming they hold Cal scoreless — in the ninth.

E7, Cal leads 7-3:

In his first complete inning, Luke Craytor set the side down in order, striking out Lawson Olmstead in the process.

M7, Cal leads 7-3:

Otto Espinoza set the side down in order in the seventh.

E6, Cal leads 7-3:

Brody Roe got two outs and allowed a runner on first and second before he was pulled in favor of Luke Craytor. Craytor got out of the inning, inducing an inning-ending fly out on Hideki Prather.

Cal will go to Otto Espinoza out of the bullpen.

M6, Cal leads 7-3:

A one-out single from Owen Petrich wasn't enough for the Hokies to cut into the Cal lead. Sam Gates flew out to center before Pete Daniel singled, but Owen Petrich was thrown out at third to end the frame.

E5, Cal leads 7-3:

With help from a failed steal attempt from Carl Schmidt, Brody Roe entered the game and set the side down in order to keep Cal from adding to the scoreboard.

M5, Cal leads 7-3:

Virginia Tech responds to the two-run fourth from Cal with a one-run fifth. Henry Cooke's two-out homer to center field was the only hit of the frame.

E4, Cal leads 7-2:

Hideki Prather blasted his second home run of the day, this time a two-out, two-run shot to left field to extend the Cal lead back to five.

Griffin Stieg has remained in the game, he's at 68 pitches. Virginia Tech has a rather fresh bullpen, with Swift (likely), Craytor, Lazaro, Roe and Yagesh all available today.

M4, Cal leads 5-2:

A two-out, full-count walk from Pete Daniel is the only action that the Hokies would get on the bases in the fourth.

E3, Cal leads 5-2:

After a five-run second inning, Griffin Stieg responded in a strong way, setting the side down in order and entirely stopping the bleeding.

M3, Cal leads 5-2:

The Hokies quickly cut into the 5-0 Cal lead with a lead-off single from Treyson Hughes before Sam Grube homered to right field. Ethan Gibson followed with a double, but Henry Cooke, Ethan Ball and Hudson Lutterman all struck out to end the frame.

E2, Cal leads 5-0:

Using four hits, Cal put together a five-run inning, highlighted by a one-out, three-run home run from Hideki Prather over the center field wall. Griffin Stieg set down the next two batters after the big fly, but he's at 39 pitches through a pair of innings.

M2, Tied 0-0:

The Hokies got their first hit of the day with a one-out double from Owen Petrich. Sam Gates and Pete Daniel weren't able to bring him around to take the lead, ending the inning and holding the tie.

E1, Tied 0-0:

Griffin Stieg sets the Cal side down scoreless, working around a one-out walk. He got through the inning in 13 pitches.

M1, Tied 0-0:

Virginia Tech goes down in order — sans a two-out error that allowed Henry Cooke to reach second base — to start the game. Cal starter Ethan Foley threw 14 pitches in the opening frame.
