Warriors, Steve Kerr Make Decision on His Coaching Future

In this story:
The Golden State Warriors and Steve Kerr agreed to a two-year contract on Saturday, per ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel.
Siegel added that the contract will make Kerr the highest-paid coach in the league.
There was a legitimate concern that the two sides wouldn't agree to a new deal. After 12 seasons, Kerr seemed burnt out, and the Warriors haven't made it past the second round of the playoffs since their 2022 championship team.
But after several meetings over the last few weeks, they decided to keep their partnership going, which is surely great news for Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
Both veterans publicly declared that they wanted Kerr back.
The ramifications of this move are massive. Several Warriors who can become free agents will be more likely to re-sign, including Green, who has a $27.7 million player option.
Lottery Result Will Have Big Impact on Offseason
The next step for Golden State's offseason is figuring where they will pick in the first round of the 2026 draft.
The Warriors have a 9.4 percent chance to land a top-four pick. If they get it, they will have a better chance at landing a player who can contribute immediately, but at the same time they'll have more suitors for the pick in a trade.
Kerr's two-year contract would suggest the Warriors are more open to trading the pick than they would have been with a new, young coach.
With that said, team governor Joe Lacob likely wants to use the pick to attempt to find the Warriors' next superstar.
My guess is the Warriors will keep the pick, but if the Bucks want it in a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, don't be shocked if it gets sent to Milwaukee.
Kerr Could Help Warriors Retain Free Agents
I already mentioned that Green is likely to be back with Kerr in the fold, but that seems true to varying degrees for Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford (player option) and De'Anthony Melton (player option) as well.
Melton will be the toughest to keep, as the Warriors will have to dip into the mid-level exception to give him a suitable offer after he declines his player option, and even then they probably won't have the highest offer on the market for him.
Porzingis should be the easiest to keep because the Warriors have his Bird rights, which should mean they offer him the most money.
Horford is hard to read, as he could retire or decide to join a contender with better title aspirations. But he seemed to genuinely enjoy his season in the Bay, so there's a legitimate chance he comes back for one more year.
