BREAKING: Power Out at Target Field an Hour Before Twins' Home Opener

The power went out at Target Field just over an hour before the Twins' home opener against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday afternoon.

The game was scheduled to start at 3:10 p.m. CT, and the power outage impacted the lines to get into the stadium. Many fans were stuck outside in the sub-40 degree tempatures while things got back up and running.

There were numerous updates from Xcel Energy, which indicated that nearly 1,540 customers were affected. The power officially went out in the area at 1:51 p.m.

Just before 3 p.m., many fans at the stadium began to experience the power coming back on in some parts of the stadium. The first pitch was eventually changed to 4:05 p.m.

The Twins also annoucned that they would extend $2 dollar beer sales until the end of the second inning or until supplies last, which was as promotion that was originially set to last up until the start of the game.

Minnesota's 2026 season has gotten off to a bumpy 2-4 start, and Friday's power outage is just the latest development in a poor start to the year. Xcel Energy issued a statement on the situation.

"We are issuing the following statement now to MN media and will post to our social media.  “We have fully restored power to Target Field following a 2 p.m. outage that affected the stadium and surrounding homes and businesses. This outage was caused by an Xcel Energy equipment failure along the main power line that serves the stadium.  Our crews responded quickly and were able to restore power at approximately 2:55 pm."

"We apologize to the Minnesota Twins, the Tampa Bay Rays, and to Twins fans for impacting today’s game. We are pleased that power was restored quickly and safely, and we will continue to work to ensure we meet everyone’s expectations for reliable power. Go, Twins!”
