WWE Backlash 2026 Results: Reigns vs Fatu, John Cena Announcement & More

Tonight's WWE Backlash premium live event emanated from the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida. It featured Roman Reigns retaining his World Heavyweight Championship over Jacob Fatu in the main event, but it came at a cost.
The main event between Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu for the World Heavyweight Championship was a hard-hitting affair, with the crowd split throughout the duration of the contest.
Reigns and Fatu fired everything they had at one another, with each man kicking out of each other's finishing moves. But in the end, the removal of a turnbuckle pad helped lead to the OTC retaining his title. Following the match, Fatu would snap, attacking Reigns, the referee, and Raw General Manager Adam Pearce. It's clear things are far from finished between these two men.

As far as John Cena's "history-making" announcement was concerned, it wasn't anything that anyone had previously predicted. Cena would announce the first-ever John Cena Classic, which will also introduce a new championship to the company.
The biggest twist came when Cena revealed that the winner of the John Cena Classic would be decided by the WWE Universe, and it was possible that someone who loses their match in the Classic would leave with the title.
While it remains to be seen whether John Cena's announcement will "shock the foundation of WWE," many expected an announcement about Club WWE, so this was certainly better than most people thought heading into tonight's show.

WWE Backlash results:
Tonight's WWE Backlash premium live event is kicking off with Seth Rollins going one-on-one with Bron Breakker.
Bron Breakker (w/ Paul Heyman) defeated Seth Rollins. Breakker tried to get the jump on Rollins early, but it backfired, leaving The Visionary in clear control of the matchup early on. Eventually, Breakker gained control of the match when a high-risk top rope move from Rollins didn't go according to plan. From there, Breakker managed to slow down the pace to a style he's more comfortable with.
Breakker got a bit overconfident at one point, going for his ringside spear, but Rollins managed to counter it with a well-placed superkick instead. Rollins took control of the matchup from here until he went for a Stomp that was reversed by Breakker, putting him back in the driver's seat.
THE POWER! 😮💨

The closing moments of the match saw Breakker reverse Rollins' Falcon Arrow into a Steiner Screwdriver, but only got a two count. Rollins would hit Breakker with a Pedigree followed by the Stomp, but Paul Heyman gets on the apron to distract the referee, now allowing a pinfall to take place.
However, Rollins seemed ready for this, going outside and grabbing a steel chair just in time to take out an interfering Austin Theory and Logan Paul. But when Rollins returned to the ring, Breakker hit him with the Spear, but surprisingly, only got a two count.
The finish of the match saw Breakker attempt another Spear, but Rollins countered it with a Pedigree. Rollins would go to the top rope looking for a top rope Stomp, but Breakker countered that with another Spear, and then another to secure the pinfall victory.
THESE TWO JUST KEEP GOING! 🔥

Trick Williams (w/ Lil Yachty) defeated Sami Zayn to retain the WWE United States Championship. The match goes back and forth early on, with Zayn eventually gaining control of the matchup after driving Williams into the steel steps at ringside. Zayn would eventually lose control after allowing himself to be distracted by Lil Yachty, allowing Williams to hit him with a swinging neckbreaker.
The middle of the match saw Lil Yachty get up on the ring apron, which distracted the referee, allowing Zayn to hit Williams with the candy cane kendo stick, but Williams managed to kick out at two once again. Yachty would get involved again with the referee's back turned, cracking Zayn with the kendo stick, but Zayn kicked out at two.
The closing moments of the match saw Zayn hit Williams with a DDT on the steel steps and instead of capitalizing on his advantage chooses to hit Yachty with a Helluva Kick. By the time Zayn gets back in the ring, Williams reverses a Helluva Kick and hits the Trick Shot to score the pinfall victory.

A mini Danhausen "clone" is revealed as Danhausen's mystery tag team partner.
Danhausen and Mini Danhausen defeated The Miz and Kit Wilson. This was a pure comedy match with the Mini Danhausen beating up both Miz and Wilson early on. However, once Miz and Wilson took out Danhausen at ringside, they were able to isolate Mini Danhausen and take control of the match.
Danhausen would eventually come to and get the hot tag, taking out The Miz and Kit Wilson with relative ease. Later on, Kit Wilson tried to get rid of the Mini Danhausen by throwing him back into the cloning machine, but this only resulted in a bunch more Mini Danhausens appearing.
The finish of the match saw The Miz try to use a fire extinguisher, but it wouldn't work and would end up shooting himself in the face with it instead. Danhausen hits The Miz with a pump kick to score the pinfall victory.

IYO SKY defeated Asuka. The match kicks off with a loud "We want Kairi" chant, which probably isn't a good sign for how the crowd is going to take to this one. Things are back and forth early on, but Asuka eventually takes over the matchup. The Kairi chants don't ease up and continue throughout the match.
Later in the match, SKY would get her second wind and take control of the matchup. This gets the crowd loud and into what's actually taking place in the ring, so that can only be seen as positive. SKY hits Asuka with the Bullet Train, but Asuka kicks out at two. From there, the match was pretty even throughout the rest of the match as both women wrestled for control.
The closing moments of the match saw Asuka try to mist IYO, but she grabbed Wade Barrett's notebook from the commentary table and blocked it. The finish of the match saw Sane hit Asuka with the Over the Moonsault to score the pinfall victory.

Roman Reigns defeated Jacob Fatu to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. Reigns was cocky early on, but it came back to bite him when Fatu caught him with the Tongan Death Grip outside of the ring. The crowd is very split on this one, with half the crowd chanting for Jacob and the other half chanting for Roman.
The match itself was very much split, with both Reigns and Fatu having periods when they were in complete control. At one point, Fatu would put Reigns through the commentator's table at ringside, but didn't capitalize quickly enough as Reigns would hit him with a Spear once they got back in the ring. Fatu managed to kick out at two.

The closing moments of the match saw Fatu regain control and hit Reigns with the Mighty Moonsault, resulting in another near fall, but the OTC kicked out. Things turned into a slugfest at this point, which Fatu won. Fatu locks in the Tongan Death Grip, but Reigns manages to get out and hits Fatu with another Spear, but the Samoan Werewolf kicks out again.
The finish saw Fatu lock on the Tongan Death Grip again, but Reigns removes the turnbuckle and throws Fatu into it before hitting him with another Spear to score the pinfall victory.
After the match, Fatu snaps and attacks Reigns, the referee, and Raw General Manager Adam Pearce. Fatu poses over Reigns with the World Championship at WWE Backlash goes off the air.
