Top of the 9th

A leadoff walk from Tiroly and a one out single from Weatherspoon put two runners on for UVA. Harris walked to load the bases, but UVA could not cash in and left them stranded to give Pitt a 7-5 game one victory.

The loss drops UVA's record to 29-14 and 12-10 in the ACC. Game two is set for tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. ET.

Bottom of the 8th

After a leadoff walk, Lucas Hartman replaced Zatkowski. He got the first out, but then gave up a game-tying RBI double. After getting the second out, Pitt hit a go ahead two-run home run that made it 7-5. Hartman struck out the final batter, but the Panthers lead by two heading to the 9th

Johnson walked and Jackson singled, but UVA leaves them stranded. Cavaliers lead 5-4 heading to the bottom of the 8th

A leadoff home run from Tiroly gave UVA the lead back 5-4 and then Pitt set the Cavaliers down in order.

A leadoff home run cut UVA's lead to 4-3 and the the Panthers got a one out double which led to a game tying RBI single. Zatkowski struck out the final two batters, but the lead is gone for Virginia.

Jackson gets a leadoff home run to give UVA a 4-2 lead and then Pitt sets down the Cavaliers in order.

Scoreless 1-2-3 inning for Pitt. UVA leads 3-2 heading to the 6th

A pair of singles put two runners on for UVA and then an RBI single from Harris gave them a 3-2 lead heading to the bottom of the 5th

Harris got a one out single and then stole second. Johnson was walked to put two runners on with one out and after Jackson struck out looking, Holmes got an RBI single to give UVA the lead at 1-0. Pitt got the final out, but the Cavaliers lead 1-0 heading to the bottom of the 2nd

In a series that has only been contested 40 times, Virginia enters the weekend holding a 28-12 record, including winning the first meeting 19-5 in 1940.

The Cavaliers took two of the three from the Panthers when the two squads squared off at Disharoon Park in 2025. After splitting a Saturday doubleheader, UVA run-ruled Pitt 18-0 to clinch the series.

After a handful of weeks away, Henry Zatkowski returns to the first night starter stage. The sophomore is 6-0 this season with a 4.08 ERA and 62 strikeouts against 15 walks in 53 innings.
